Two female students die in accident at Gidabour
Two female Lassia Tuolu Senior High School (SHS) students from Bole died on the spot in an accident this morning as a bus believed to be carrying students from the Upper West Region was involved in an accident at Gidabour in the Savannah Region.
Information gathered revealed that the bus was moving towards Techiman.
It is reported that one of the deceased is the daughter of Tingawura Abudu Sampson of the Bole Traditional Area.
The remaining passengers are reported to have been rushed to the Bole Hospital.
It is still unclear what caused the accident, but residents attribute it to the bad nature of the Wa-Sawla-Bole highway.
The Ministry of Roads awarded the construction of the road to a contractor in 2017.
However, the contractor reportedly left the site due to insufficient funds.
Meanwhile, data released by the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has revealed that 2,589 people lost their lives in road accidents between February 2022 and February 2023, more than the number of lives lost to the coronavirus in Ghana.
The age and gender distribution of the data shows that 196 males under 18 died, representing 8% of deaths and 130 females under 18 died, accounting for 5%.
Also, 342 females over 18 died, representing 13%, and 1921 males over 18 died, representing 74% of road accidents recorded between February 2022 and February 2023.
In the meantime, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has implemented strategies to reduce traffic accidents through the Remain Alive Campaign to encourage drivers to follow traffic regulations.
The authority also added a short code 194 as an additional toll-free number to aid law enforcement and related agencies in minimizing accidents and other safety-related issues in the country.
Is very sad leaders are elected yet things are going wayward,What are the monies use for for concert party and going viral in Sawla Town.somethings they should hold the drivers responsible because they drive carelessly on that road more often and take The road officers on as well . How much will it take to work on the road and how much will it cost you people. Paaaasha only is very painful 😖.
