NPP Responds To NDC, On State Of The Nation

The National Chairman of the Governing New Patriotic Party, Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim has in a riposte described the statement issued by the opposition National Democratic Congress as falsified information in its campaign to toxify the atmosphere to win political power. He said, the New Patriotic Party admits to the realities of the day such as the rising cost of living in Ghana but they are not happening in a vacuum, are circumstantial, and are exogenous-driven.

Mr. Stephen Ayensu Ntim noted that the economy under the present government was on the trajectory of success until the global coronavirus epidemic barged into the picture to cause the economic accident. The conspirator which came on the heels of the health scare is the existing war between Russia and Ukraine. He said the war and the epidemic changed the course of Ghana’s economy which was picking up from the abyss it had sunk under the previous government.

It is the position of the New Patriotic Party that Ghana’s economy had always been in a difficult place, having been in and out of bailouts by the International Monetary Fund, IMF, more than a dozen times. He said the NPP is capable of handling challenges because it had run a successful HIPC programme during the Kufour presidency and oversaw the completion of another IMF programme started by an NDC government in 2014.

He expressed optimism that the government led by President Akufo Addo would score full marks, once the country accesses the IMF loan to which processes are far-advanced. The NDC berated the President and his government in a statement read by the party’s chairman John Asiedu Nketiah, saying his annual State of the Nation address delivered in parliament, was completely whitewashed and that the reality check is on the ground where the masses are suffering untold hardships.

To this, his counterpart in the NPP said, facts and figures quoted to support such claims were full of inaccuracies and repetition of falsehoods to make them look credible to the good people of Ghana. He said, his party shall overcome the teething challenges facing the economy to win the next general elections, ”we are going to break the 8,” Chairman Ayensu Ntim said.
