The Ministry for Health has taken delivery of 500,000 Measles-Rubella immunization vaccines.

Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, led a delegation to receive the consignment at the Kotoka International Airport on Tuesday, March 21, 2023.

The ministry and the Ghana Health Service (GHS) received the first consignment of vaccines, which included Bacillus Calmette–Guérin (BCG), Measles-Rubella (MR), and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV).

The Director General of the GHS, Dr. Patrick Kumah Aboagye was at the airport to observe the airlifting of the vaccines to various regions.

The Health Minister, on Tuesday, said the vaccines that were received earlier have been distributed across the country.

This comes days after the sector minister, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, assured the nation on the floor of Parliament about the shipment of the vaccines in the coming weeks.

Ghana, a few weeks ago, experienced a shortage of vaccines for immunization of childhood killer diseases.

President Nana Akufo-Addo expressed concern over the shortage of vaccines, during his State of the Nation Address in Parliament.

The president stressed that the shortage if prolonged will negatively affect Ghana’s Childhood Immunisation Programme.
