6 Tricks For Drinking More Water Every Day
Fun fact about me: I drink a lot of water, about 4 litres a day to be exact. I drink so much water that I went to see my family doctor to make sure everything was OK.
I had to take a few blood tests, but everything came back normal. So, here I am, still drinking a ton of water.
I may drink a ton of water, but keeping yourself properly hydrated throughout the day is important. I’m not saying you have to drink as much as I do, although you should be drinking close to two litres a day.
Keep in mind our bodies are 60 percent water, so we need to drink it in order to survive. Of course, it’s easier said than done! I have a few friends who struggle to remember to stay hydrated throughout the day. If you’re in the same boat as them, here are 6 ways you can trick yourself into drinking more water.
Drink it when you first wake up
Try and get into the habit of drinking a glass of water first thing in the morning. Your body is usually dehydrated when you first wake up because you just finished sleeping for five to eight hours. So, while you’re brewing your morning cup of coffee or tea sip on a glass of water!
Sip it before every meal
I truly mean every single meal! If you’re out for breakfast, ask for a glass of water when the server asks for your drink order. If you’re making a snack, sip on some water.
If you’re heating your lunch up at work, take a sip of water. If you’re making dinner-keep a glass of water beside you and drink it while you cook. Try doing this for a week, and it’ll become natural for you.
Always carry a (full) water bottle with you
Buy a water bottle you like and keep it with you at all times. Carry it with you to work, keep it beside you while you’re watching TV, bring it to your friends, heck, even bring it in the shower with you. Keep the water bottle full, and bring it everywhere you go! This will make you remember to keep on sipping.
Turn your water bottle into a clock
Buy a jug of water at the grocery store and mark lines on the bottle that correspond with different times! So, let’s say you draw four lines on the bottle. The line at the top of the bottle would be 9:00 am, the next would be 12:00 pm, the next would be 4:00 pm, and the last one would be 7:00 pm. Basically when the clock hits each of these times make sure the water level lines up with it!
Jazz up your water
Some people think water is too boring to drink. Fix this by adding citrus fruit, cucumber, or mint to it! My favourite is adding lemon, cucumber, and mint to my glass of water! The combination tastes great. Whatever you end up adding to your water make sure you let it infuse for a bit, so you get the real flavour.
You might also want to check your water at home for contamination. If it seems like your water has a metallic taste, it may be likely caused by contamination or excess trace of minerals in your water supply. Other contaminants such as lead might be tasteless but can be harmful to your health. Remove lead from drinking water by getting it tested for lead exposure and installing water filters at home.
Set a timer
If you are really struggling to remember to drink water, start setting timers on your phone. When the timer goes off drink some water. Keep doing this and it will eventually train your brain. Soon you won’t need to rely on anything!
Try incorporating these tricks into your daily routine! If you stick with them, soon enough you’ll be drinking 2 litres of water a day. Keep in mind, once you start drinking more water you will feel great all around. Your body and skin will love you for it. So what are you waiting for? Sip, sip, hooray!
