It was a solemn moment as friends, family, and sympathizers bade their farewell to the young military officer who was killed at Ashaiman, in Accra.

The 21-year-old Trooper Imoro Sheriff was reportedly stabbed by unknown assailants on Saturday, March 4, 2023.

Scant details on the case suggest that the late Sheriff, a trumpeter with the Ghana Armed Forces Band stationed at Sunyani in the Bono Region was killed by a gang after he visited his girlfriend in the vicinity.

The funeral rites, which were held at the military cemetery at Burma Camp in Accra, also had in attendance the top hierarchy of the Ghana Armed Forces.

Colleagues, sympathizers, and family, who were still in a state of shock over his death, struggled with tears as his lifeless body draped in white cloth was gently laid in the grave.

He was described by many as a hardworking individual, a calm and committed member of the force.

Afia Kyeraa, the 45-year-old mother of Sheriff Imoro, who described the loss as a great one said she will miss her son deeply.

“It is not easy for me, I can’t help it, he was all that I got, he was supposed to take care of his siblings but he is gone. It’s difficult. I’m still in shock. He was my only hope.

“I don’t do any work apart from selling tomatoes, onions, and pepper to help Sherif. He promised to take care of his siblings once he starts working but see what has happened,” she said.

The 45-year-old mother, consumed with pain and grief, said she will definitely miss her son as he was her only true friend.

The family has one prayer — for justice to be served and for the perpetrators to be brought to book.

Meanwhile, the military who stormed Ashaiman to fish out the perpetrators of the heinous crime has released 150 residents picked up following the swoop.

A set of 30 is still being held in military custody.
