AFCON 2023 qualifiers: Chris Hughton names first Black Stars squad
Head coach of the Black Stars, Chris Hughton has named his first-ever squad ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Angola on Thursday, March 23, 2023.
The newly appointed coach has his first task in charge as the Stars play Angola in a doubleheader this month in a quest to book a place in the AFCON tournament slated for Ivory Coast next year.
The squad list released saw the return of Joseph Paintsil, Majeed Ashimeru, Edmund Addo and a debut call-up for Sherif Tiraspol’s Patrick Kpozo.
Local-based players failed to make the cut as well as Reading FC duo Abdul Baba Rahman and Andy Yiadom, with Richard Ofori out with an injury.
Ghana will host Palancras Negras at the Baba Yara Sports stadium on March 23 before travelling to Luanda on March 27, 2023, for the reverse fixture.
Ghana is on top of the Group E table with 4 points from two games following a 3-0 win over Madagascar and a 1-1 draw with the Central African Republic in June last year.
