Former President John Dramani Mahama has received overwhelming support from the regional chairmen of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for the upcoming internal polls to select a flagbearer for the party.

The regional chairmen, who had gathered at the University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), took turns to assure the NDC flagbearer hopeful of their support.

Former President Mahama launched his campaign to contest ahead of the 2024 polls on Thursday, March 2.

They believe the former president is the only qualified person and father to lead the party to victory in 2024.

The NDC Regional Vice Chairman of the Ashanti Region, John Kwame Gyabari, said all the executives in the region were in support of Mr Mahama’s bid.

“My Chairman is currently not in the country. Your Excellency, last week, there was an endorsement by the women’s wing in the region. I want to tell you that the women told me to come and tell you that endorsement was fake and that they are all behind you.

“All your opponents are from the Ashanti Region, and we want to assure you that we are giving you 101 per cent of the votes in the Ashanti region. You can go and sleep,” he said amidst cheers.

Adding his voice, the NDC Chairman for North East, Ibrahim Tanko Abdul Rauf, said the region has no money but will support Mahama’s candidature with 100% votes.

On his part, NDC Central Regional Chairman Professor Kofi Asiedu said Mr Mahama had the blessing from all constituency members of the region.

The campaign is on the theme: ‘Building the Ghana we want together’.

The NDC primaries have been scheduled for May 13, 2023.

Mr Mahama has Dr Kwabena Duffour, a former Finance Minister; Kojo Bonsu, a former Mayor of Kumasi; and Ernest Kobeah, a 43-year-old businessman based in the United Kingdom, as his contenders.
