Some 21 persons are said to be in critical condition following a ghastly accident on the Accra-Cape Coast Highway.

A Sprinter bus collided with a VW Jetta saloon car on the stretch between Gomoa Kyerekwanta and Gomoa Antaadze on Tuesday, February 28.

The District Fire Officer for Gomoa West at the Apam Fire Station, Adolf Ankomah Nuamah, confirmed the sad news.

According to him, the driver of the VW Jetta saloon car was reportedly sleeping due to fatigue when he collided with the rear of the Mercedes Benz Sprinter bus, causing it to somersault multiple times.

He said 11 males and 10 females were involved in the accident and all of them are receiving treatment at Apam St Luke’s Catholic Hospital.

It will be recalled that a similar incident occurred on the same stretch two days ago, resulting in the death of a female victim.

The country is losing its human capital to accident-related deaths, and productive lives are being rendered disabled due to severe injuries.

More than 200 people die monthly in road accidents in Ghana, the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has said.

The latest figure was for the period between January 1, 2022, and August 31, 2022, which accounted for 1,600 deaths.

This represents a 16 percent decrease compared to the same period in 2021, which recorded 1,800 deaths.
