The upcoming State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has been rescheduled to Wednesday, March 8, 2023.
This was contained in the business statement of Parliament for this week.
The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, also the Chairman of the Business Committee of Parliament, said the address, usually presented in the middle of February, was delayed due to the slight changes in the time Parliament began.
However, Mr Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, on Thursday, February 24, announced the postponement while presenting the business statement of Parliament for the third week ending Friday, March 3.
However, he did not state any particular reason for the change in date.
The sessional address is mandatory for a sitting president as per Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution.
The president, in his address, will outline the government’s key policy objectives and deliverables for the year ahead.
He will also use the opportunity to state the successes of the government and the economic challenges plaguing the country and outline the developmental programmes geared towards better living conditions for Ghanaians.
