Tiwa Savage announces debut in a film shot in Ghana
43 year old Nigerian music star, Tiwa Savage has announced her acting debut in a new movie titled, Water and Garri.
The artiste, who appeared on BBC’s list of the 100 inspirational and innovative women for 2017 made the disclosure on her Instagram page on Wednesday, February 15.
In the post, Tiwa noted that she co-directed the film, which was shot in Ghana, with renowned Nigerian director, Meji Alabi
“This is about to be an ICONIC moment,” she remarked while posting photos of herself on set. My first calling and joint-directing outing with @meji Alabi, the GOAT,” she captioned a picture from the movie.
Tiwa plays the role of Aisha, a fashion designer in the US who returns home to confront her guilt in Water and Garri.
The movie was shot in Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana and produced by the African production company Unbound, Studios and JM films.
Her 2021 EP titled Water and Garri appears to be the inspiration for the movie’s name.
Tiwa Savage has earned an admirable following with a number of studio albums and Extended Plays such as Once Upon a Time (2013), R.E.D (2015), Sugarcane (2017), Celia (2020) and Water & Garri (2021).
