An 80-year-old man and his daughter died after the car they were travelling in crashed into a tipper truck.

The accident occurred on the Ejisu-Kuntenase road near Onwe on Tuesday, January 31, 2023.

According to eyewitnesses, Kwame Mensah and Sarfo Emmanuella, 23, died on the spot, while two others sustained severe injuries.

The driver, a Seventh-Day Adventist pastor in critical condition, is receiving treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital.

Police sources say the accident occurred less than two minutes after Pastor Obeng picked up Mr Mensah and his daughter, who stood by the roadside waiting for transportation.

The two had visited the Onwe Health Centre.

An eyewitness, Mr Edward Opoku said: “The Benz vehicle with registration number GW- 7329-X, with the four people en route to Ejisu Achina, collided with the tipper truck with registration number GR-9570-22 causing massive destruction to the Benz car.”

“When we got to the scene, the four people, three men and a woman, were trapped in the seriously dented vehicle, and it took a while for the officials of the Ghana National Fire Service GNFS to cut open the damaged car to rescue the victims,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the tipper truck driver currently receiving treatment after sustaining injuries said the truck’s brake failed while negotiating a sharp curve on the Achina – Onwe road, leading to the gory accident.

The bodies of the deceased have been deposited at a nearby morgue.
