CHAN 2023: Black Galaxies captain Gladson Awako returns to training

Black Galaxies captain Gladson Awako has returned to training ahead of Ghana’s first Group C against Madagascar on Sunday.

Awako was injured in a friendly match against tournament hosts Algeria and has not been actively participating in the team’s training sessions since.

The midfielder was also unable to participate in the friendly against Mozambique, which ended unexpectedly, and was only participating in light training sessions as part of his recuperation.

The captain returned to training on Friday evening, when the squad had its first session at Constantine’s Stade Chahid Hamlaoui Annex training grounds.

The Black Galaxies will undertake their final practice session on Saturday evening before their Group stage debut against Madagascar on Sunday.

After competing in the tournament in Cote D’Ivoire, Sudan, and South Africa in 2009, 2011, and 2014, respectively, Ghana will be making a record-breaking fourth CHAN participation.

Group C contains the Black Galaxies along with Madagascar, Sudan, and Morocco.

The game against Madagascar will kick off at 7 pm.
