6 Things You Sacrifice In A Committed Relationship
I was never a relationship person. You would always find me with my friends, and I was happy with that.
Until I met him. He’s now my best friend, my soulmate, and the love of my life. Obviously, times can get hard, especially when you’re used to being single and focusing on yourself.
We were both like that before we met each other. We have both had to adjust to each other’s lives and work with it.
But, of course… Sometimes you must make sacrifices when you’re with someone you love. Here is a couple of them:
Alone time
I’m independent, and I love my alone time. Give me a book and a cup of tea, and I’ll cuddle up on the couch by myself and be happy.
When I first started dating, I would not give up my personal time. But when I met someone who I truly wanted to be with, I learned to adjust.
Of course, this doesn’t mean you need to cancel it out completely. But when you get in a relationship, you’ll have less alone time than you would when you were single. If you’re not willing to give up some quality time with yourself, then it’s going to put some pressure on your relationship.
Sharing your bed
Truthfully, if my boyfriend heads to work before me, I take advantage of having the bed to myself. If you’re used to sleeping by yourself and now you have someone beside you, it’s kind of weird, right? But think about it this way; you always have a cuddle buddy.
I’ve learned to love turning over and seeing my boyfriend beside me, and now it’s weird if I sleep alone!
TV shows and movies
It’s okay to let your boyfriend, or girlfriend, pick the movie or TV show for once. You may not be thrilled with the choice, but if it makes them happy then that is what matters, right? Of course, they have to do the same for you.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S is my all-time favorite show, which is the show my boyfriend hates the most. He will sit through it sometimes, but I try not to put it on unless he is sleeping.
Stepping outside your comfort zone
My boyfriend plays sports, and I would rather read books or take an art class. This was a very easy adjustment for me because I like trying new things, and I support my boyfriend’s hobbies.
He does the same. We talked about joining a pottery class, which he would never if he wasn’t dating me. Some people may have a hard time stepping outside their comfort zone. But once you do, you’ll enjoy it. You’re creating new memories with your partner.
Flirting
If you’re a natural flirt this is for you. I know it’s fun, I get it. But, it’s something you have to give up. Would you like it if your boyfriend or girlfriend did this behind your back? I doubt it! Flirt with the person you’re in a relationship with, it’s just as fun!
Money
It’s pricey to be in a relationship. You’re not just buying for one person anymore, you’re buying for two. Don’t be greedy with your money, and learn to sacrifice it to pay for dinner, go to the movies, or bowling. Hint: It’s 2017, ladies can pay for things too.
Remember, this is a two-way street. Both of you need to make sacrifices, and if you don’t it could make your relationship end. Think about it, you’re coming from one life, and your partner is coming from another. You need to meet in the middle. It may take some time, but it’s important to adjust to each other.
