A yet-to-be-identified young woman has allegedly been beaten to death at Buduburam in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
According to reports, the victim was beaten to a pulp during a scuffle at ‘Gab’ in the Liberian camp which is a popular hideout for suspected criminals.
It is not clear what led to the scuffle but she is said to have suffered severe injuries in the ear and bruises on the face and neck.
She was rushed to St Gregory Hospital where she was declared dead.
Meanwhile, police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident to assist with investigations.
This comes after the renewed calls by the chiefs and people of Gomoa for the Liberian Camp to be demolished.
The calls have been intensified after a four-member robbery gang who robbed a woman at Caprice about a week ago were arrested in their hideout at Buduburam.
The Chief of Buduburam, Nana Kojo Essel II, lamented that the once peaceful area is now the headquarters of criminals.
The chief has, therefore, called on the government to, as a matter of urgency, demolish the hub to save lives and property.
Meanwhile, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Gomoa East, Solomon Darko Quarm, says the Assembly is ever ready to demolish the Buduburam camp.
However, he said their hands are tied following a directive by the Interior Minister, Ambrose Dery, and National Security officials for the exercise to be handed over to them.
Residents were given a September 30, 2021 deadline, to vacate the area to pave way for demolition and redevelopment.
The announcement was however met with fierce resistance by the residents over claims that no provision has been made for them.
