Segbefia Cautions Delegates Against Vote Buying
Chairman of the Electoral Committee of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr Alex Segbefia, has warned all delegates participating in the election of the Women Organiser and the Youth Organizer to desist from accepting money in exchange for their votes.
According to him, buying votes does not reflect the true credibility of the election results, which will create a problem of voting for incompetent executives into power.
“Taking of other gifts apart from money must also be avoided by all delegates from the candidates”, he emphasised.
He noted that the delegate must vote for someone capable of working effectively to bring back the opposition National Democratic Congress party into power in the 2024 general election.
Touching on the capability and readiness of the incoming executives, he said, “We always have a duty to bring in executives who will grow the party and make a change in Ghana. Never has it been so important than this congress in these elections. Actually, you will notice that ‘Rallying for victory for 2024’ is Ghana’s hope. Everybody knows that this government has disappointed Ghanaians, and that is why we want Ghanaians to vote for the NDC to make things better for them and through our able executives we can do that”.
Addressing the media at the 10th Youth and Women Conference in Cape Coast, Mr. Segbefia admonished the delegates and other party members who will be at the various polling stations to cheer their candidates to ensure that they maintain law and order to ensure a peaceful election.
About 1,375 delegates from all 275 constituencies across the country are expected to elect their best candidates who will steer the affairs of the party for the next four years.
The contests for the top positions are two-horse races between the incumbents and their sole contenders.
The incumbent National Women Organiser, Dr Hanna Louisa Bisiw, is being challenged by a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Suhum, Margaret Ansei.
The incumbent Youth Organiser, George Opare Addo, would have to battle it out with the Ashanti Regional Youth Organiser of the NDC, Brogya Genfi.
The Deputy Women Organiser position has four aspirants — Abigail Akwabea Elorm Mensah, Felicia Dzifa Tegah, Jessie Adams and Hajia Alijata Sulemana.
For the position of deputy youth organiser, there are 10 contestants.
They are Osman Abdulai Ayariga, Ruth Dela Seddoh, Bright Nudokpo Honu, Sulemana Abdul Karim and Mohammed Abubakari Sadiq Gombilla.
The rest are Kabiru Ahmed, Eric Dadson, Pendilock Owusu Asare, Obed Opintan and Jude Sekley.
