Five suspects who attempted to escape from the Awutu Bereku District Police Command cells have been re-arrested.
The group made up of three Nigerians and two Ghanaians had been behind bars for various offences awaiting trial this week.
The offences range from cyber fraud to mobile phone and air-conditioner theft among others.
They attempted to break the cell around 1 am on Monday, November 21, 2022, using a chisel and a hammer.
It took the intervention of the officers on duty to foil their escape plan.
They were almost through with their escape plan as they had already broken the metal bars when they were re-arrested.
All five suspects have been taken to different cells while awaiting their trial.
Meanwhile, some residents have commended the officers who were on duty for working tirelessly and called on the administration to promote them.
They also appealed for more officers to be posted to the Awutu Bereku District Police Command to help fight crime.
However, the officers on duty are yet to comment on the incident.
