Asiamah to face Parliament over AFCON showing next week

Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah will next week appear before Parliament to account for Ghana’s performance in the AFCON in Egypt.

This was confirmed in the House by Majority leader Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu Friday.

“ Mr. Speaker I have been in communication with the minister and already he has agreed to come to the house, because I thought initially it’s going to take remedial review on Monday, I suggested to him that we do it on Wednesday, in the circumstance, I believe we can take him on Wednesday; either Tuesday or Wednesday.

“Certainly he is coming, this coming is not at the instance of the honorable Member for Kumbungu, that agreement has already been extracted with the minister, and of course, it will satisfy his own enquiry too,” he told the said the House.

The Black Stars of Ghana had their worst showing at the continental competition since 2006.

Many Ghanaians have expressed anger at the refusal of the ministry to disclose the budget of the team before embarking on the trip to Egypt, where the competition is being held.

Media speculations had pegged appearance fee for the players at $83,000 each.

Senegal and Algeria are set to play the finals of the competition today.
