NADMO directors rescind strike threats after financial clearance

The National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Directors in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District offices, have backed down on their intended strike which was scheduled to begin today, July 5, 2019.

The directors, on June 24, threatened to stage a nationwide protest with their families over unpaid salaries.

The NADMO directors had accused the Finance and Interior Ministries of failing to pay them 18 months after they started work.

A letter sighted by Citi News shows that the financial clearance for the payment of the directors had been granted for the first batch of directors.

“Financial clearance is hereby granted the Ministry of Interior to enable the Director-General of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) pay salaries of the first batch of 225 appointed personnel out of 626 personnel,” the statement added.

The letter is dated June 21, 2019 and it notes that the clearance expires on December 31, 2019.

Some directors in the Eastern Region told Citi News that the long-awaited financial clearance which is a step in addressing their grievances is the reason why they have decided to back down on the protest.
