‘Not bothered by fight’s short notice’ – Sena Agbeko ahead of super middleweight clash
Ghanaian boxer, Sena “The African Assassin” Agbeko has stated he is not bothered by the challenge of Isaiah Steen despite the late arrangement of the fight.
Agbeko is scheduled to fight American Steen on Friday, October 21 at the Bally’s Atlantic City Hotel in New Jersey at 16:30 GMT in a Super Middleweight bout.
30-year-old Agbeko, fighting out of Nashville, Tennessee in the US, goes into Friday’s fight with a record of 25 wins and two losses while Steen has 16 wins and zero losses, with 12 of those wins coming by way of knockouts.
Even in the face of the late-arranged fight, Agbeko is confident his disciplined routine and a few last-minute tweaks would be enough to overcome this test.
“I had been training because recently I won the WBC USA Super Middleweight belt so I expected to get a call from one of the big names for a title fight soon so I kind of stayed in the gym…but I got the notice for this fight two weeks ago so it was just a matter of fine tuning what I had already been doing,” he said.
“It’s not short notice if you’ve been training the whole time and you’ve been getting ready for it. For me, these opportunities rarely ever come by. Azumah Nelson, when he fought Salvador Sanchez years ago, I believe he also had a three-week notice for that fight and he went in there and he did his best and that opened a lot of doors for him” he stated in an exclusive interview with Citi Sports.
This weekend’s fight is Agbeko’s third this year, while Steen will be in action for the second time since November 2020.
