Ayew Optimistic About Black Stars Performance At The World Cup

Black Stars captain Andre Ayew has insisted that the team be ready for the upcoming World Cup in Qatar.

He is positive that Ghana will deliver at the world tournament despite an unimpressive result from this month’s international friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.

Both games were part of the team’s preparations for the tournament, which begins on November 20, but the Black Stars have come under fire after failing to impress Ghanaians.

The first of the two friendlies saw the team lose 3-0 against the South American giants and tournament favourite before recording a narrow 1-0 victory over Nicaragua’s ‘Blue and Whites’.

Some Ghanaians after the games have criticised both the technical team led by Otto Addo and the players for such a performance and even doubted the Black Stars’ ability to advance from their group to achieve the semi-final target, which will be an improvement on their best show at the tournament.

Ghana’s best record at the tournament was the quarter-finals stage at the 2010 edition hosted by South Africa.

The 32-year-old, who played in both games and is now tied with Asamoah Gyan for the most caps for Ghana, is upbeat.

“Still work to be done, but we will be ready. Thank you all for the support!” Ayew wrote on Instagram.

Ghana, drawn in Group H, will begin their group stage fixtures with a match against Portugal before playing Asian side South Korea and wrapping it up with Uruguay.

Two teams from the group will advance from the group to the round of 16.
