Disregard threats of contract termination reports – School feeding caterers told

Public Relations Officer(PRO) of the School Feeding Caterers Association of Ghana, Maame Yaa Duodua Appiah-Korang, has denied media reports of purported threats of contract termination of members following the demand of payments of arrears owed them.

According to her, the claims were new to the association’s leadership.

“I’m not aware of any caterer’s contract being terminated; they’re all rumours being circulated. No caterer’s contract is terminated because she’s unable to cook,” she said on GHOne News.

Reports had emerged that members of the association were receiving threats of contract termination for demanding payments of arrears owed them.

President of the Greater Accra School Feeding Caterers Association, Madam Juliana Cudjoe, said they had not been able to return to the schools after reopening because their arrears for the last two terms had still not been paid.

Meanwhile, the PRO of the Ghana School Feeding Programme, Mr Siiba Alfa,  has promised that the secretariat will investigate the matter.

“We will be engaging our various coordinators on the issues raised and ensure that the issues are addressed,” he said.

He added that the secretariat would ensure that the caterers had a conducive working environment.

School feeding caterers across the country have, for the past months, been agitating over the arrears.

They have also demanded an increase in the feeding grant for the pupils.

The caterers threatened to abrogate their contracts with the government following months of delayed payment of outstanding amounts owed by the government.

Ghana School Feeding Programme

The Ghana School Feeding Programme is an initiative of the comprehensive Africa Agricultural Development Programme Pillar 3, which seeks to enhance food security and reduce hunger in line with the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (MDGs) on hunger, poverty and malnutrition.

The government currently provides 93 pesewas for a child per day for a plate of food.

The amount is considered inadequate to provide an adequate and healthy diet for child development.
