An Iveco tipper truck has rammed into four vehicles at Mangoase-Ashongman Estates in the Dome Kwabenya Constituency after an alleged brake failure.

The accident on Tuesday, September 27, 2022, left four people injured and one unconscious.

The truck loaded with sand, heading towards Melcom, from the road connecting Kwabenya Abuom junction to Ashongman Estate, experienced a brake failure and rammed into the vehicles.

A Toyota Vitz, Suzuki, a Nissan pickup and a Honda CRV that were hit by the tipper truck were left mangled.

It also ran into a nearby house, completely bringing down its walls.

Ivan Mawusi, an eyewitness, told Class FM that the truck driver blamed the accident on brake failure.

“According to the truck driver, his brakes failed him. But something must be done about the reckless attitude of tipper drivers plying this route.”

He believed that the accident was caused by reckless driving on the tipper driver’s part.

“They have no respect for the small vehicles. They intimidate them on the road. Something must be done about it. This is a residential area, not a highway, where the trucks are expected to speed. The drivers must be made to observe speed limits on the road because there are several schools in the community. This could have been some kids,” he added.

Meanwhile, the injured persons were rushed to the hospital.
