GAA trains security services on officiating

The Ghana Athletics Association (GAA) has trained service men and women in the army, navy and air force in the organisation of athletics and rudiments of officiating in the sport.

The three Day school held from September 14-16 at the Physical Training Tradoc School at Whistler Barracks at Teshie in Greater Accra saw 77 trainees participating.

They were taken through the course by Albert Kofi Bonney of the University of Education, Winneba and Bawa Alhassan, a superintendent of Police  at the CID headquarters.

Officers who completed the course were rewarded with a certificates that permits them to officiate and organise any athletics competition in the country.

The CEO of the GAA , Mr Bawa Fuseini told the Daily Graphic the course will ensure fairness and unbiased officiating during competitions.

“It will also equip participants with the needed and requisite skills set on how well to organise athletics competitions,” he told the Daily Graphic.

He called on other security agencies to embark on a similar trajectory and organise GAA approved clinics for their officers.

He thanked the Ghana Army for allowing it’s facilities and premises to be used for such training.

The clinic was held by the GAA in collaboration with the Physical Training School in Teshie.
