A man alleged to be mentally challenged has attacked two brothers with a machete at Anyaa NIC in Accra today, 20 September 2022.

The man, who lives in a make-shift structure,  is said to be constantly threatening to kill some residents in the neighbourhood, including children.

He is also known to attack and kill livestock belonging to some residents regularly.

One of such attempts to slaughter a fowl on Tuesday morning led to a confrontation between him and the owner.

Narrating the incident to UTV in an interview monitored by The Ghana Report, Evangelist Willie, a neighbour who witnessed the incident, said one of the victims lost a finger in the attack.

He said the mentally challenged man attempted to hit the victim’s head with the machete, but he tried blocking with his hand, which resulted in losing a finger.

“A brother of the victim also, in an attempt to rescue his brother, was also slashed with the machete.”

According to the eyewitness, the suspect left the machete and bolted from the scene when residents started rushing to the house.

The victims were sent to the hospital for treatment, and the case was reported to the police.

This incident is the third attack by a mentally challenged person since 1 August 2022.

It would be recalled that a mentally challenged woman allegedly stoned an unidentified young man to death at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange area in Accra on Monday, 1 August 2022.

According to eyewitnesses, the victim was a pillion rider on a passing motorbike who tried to stop the woman from terrorizing other road users.

In another worrying event, a driver with the Ghana National Ambulance Service, Mahama Imoro Luckey, was allegedly killed by a mentally challenged man at Bole in the Savannah Region on 4 September 2022.

He was suspected of being hit on the head with a cement block by his attacker around the Bole LA Primary School.

According to eyewitnesses, Luckey was making a call in the school, close to where the suspect slept, when he allegedly attacked him and fled the area.
