Ghana’s Feedback On The AGRF Held in Rwanda

Ghana, Mali, Senegal and Kenya have been selected for the pilot phase of agricultural transformation agenda by the African Green Revolution Forum.

The four are to be assisted by AATI for faster transformation of their agricultural sectors.

AATI is abbreviation for African Agricultural Transformation Initiative.

Ghana’s Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto has therefore called for presence of AATI in Ghana to foster the process.

The minister who participated in the September summit of the African Green Revolution Forum in Rwanda, has indicated the areas where Ghana prefers further assistance.

These include partnership with private sector and civil society, enhancement of institutional capacities, development of operational infrastructure, and data collection systems. Funding partners are BMGF, McKinsey, AGRA and IFAD.

According to Dr Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Ghana raised as priorities, funding support for the Tree Crops Development Authority, the Grains Development Authority and systems for
processing, storing, and selling inputs and outputs.

He said Ghana has her feet firmly on the accelerator to meet the annual production target of 1.2 million tons of local rice to meet growing demand and to save foreign exchange.

The 9th edition of the AGRF was held in Ghana, under the theme “Grow Digital, using digital systems to speed up the transformational process in agriculture”.

The AGRF is the world’s
premier forum for African food systems and agriculture. Discussions are in layers of
Presidential Summit, High-Level Plenary Sessions, Farmers Forum, and High-Level Youth Townhall meeting.
