Contractors Threaten To Sue Government Over Delayed Payment Of Executed Projects

Some Contractors working on state projects have  threatened to sue  government for delaying in making payment for executed projects in the country.

The spokesperson for the Joint Contractors Association, Richard Nyarko, in an interview monitored by the Ghana Report on Citi News said the Association is ready to negotiate with government on a payment plan since the issue is affecting them.

“We are willing and ready to negotiate. Even if government cannot pay all the money they owe us, at least, we should sit down and talk. But we have given government two weeks to get back to us for a favourable response. If they don’t engage with us, we will explore other options including legal because our money has lost value.”

The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwasi Amoako-Attah admits that the Ministry has not been able to pay the contractors due to the outbreak of the Covid’19 which was a global threat to every economy.

The Joint Contractors Association previously suggested to the government to make available enough funds that will be used to contract good roads in the country. The Akufo Addo-led government has declared this year as  “YEAR OF ROADS” but how can these contractors work effectively without remuneration?

The association believes Ghana will increase the mileage of good roads if contractors are paid promptly to stay on the job.
