Somebody does not want Aisha Huang in Ghana – Effah Dartey

Counsel for the Chinese Galamsey Queen is convinced there are plots to ensure Aisha Huang does not walk on the streets of Ghana again.

Nkrabea Effah Dartey, who is not happy with media reportage suggesting that his client is a Galamsey Kingpin, said there are deliberate attempts by her debtors to sack her from the country.

According to him, it’s possible for his client to step on a few toes in the mining industry due to the numerous businesses in the country.

“But what I know for sure is that Aisha Huang, during the 2018 trial, told me she has a lot of business interests in Ghana, and I suspect that those who owe her for services rendered or materials purchased have not paid back. It is those people who do not want Aisha Huang around.

“They would not want to see her back in Ghana so that they can live without paying for her materials or things that she has sold to them. Otherwise, of course, I don’t know any particular human being that I can put my finger on and say that this particular person is orchestrating Aisha Huang’s woes or difficulties, but I suspect strongly that it is her debtors or her creditors who are trying to worry her” Nkrabea Effah Dartey revealed.

Responding to rumours about the 47-year-old Chinese queen holding ‘big men’ to ransom because of sex tapes she may have in her possession, Mr Dartey said that was not the modus operandi of his client.

“I know her as a young woman so to tell you she has the ability to influence decision-makers, and policymakers is quite surprising. To the best of my knowledge my client is not accepting the fact that she can influence anybody or she has the capacity to interfere in decision making or that she is fond of trying to undermine justice.

“She tells me she has not done anything like that,” he said in a Joynews interview monitored by theghanareport.com.

Aisha and three others have been remanded for another two weeks pending further investigations.

Together, they have been charged with mining without a licence and sale and purchase of minerals without a license.

All four have pleaded not guilty and are expected in court on 27 September 2022.

Facts of the case

As narrated in court, the complainants are security and intelligence officers, and the accused persons are Chinese nationals.

The prosecution said Aisha had gained “notoriety” for engaging in a series of small-scale mining activities known as galamsey across the
country.

It said in 2017, Aisha was arrested for a similar offence, but she managed to “sneak out” of the country, averting prosecution.

The prosecution said early this year, Aisha “sneaked” into Ghana, having changed the details on her Chinese passport.

The suspect is said to have applied for a Togo visa and went through the borders into Ghana.

Aisha then resumed small-scale mining activities without a license and further engaged in the purchase and sale of minerals in Accra without valid authority as granted by the Minerals and Mining Act.

The prosecution said she engaged in the sale and purchase of minerals with the three accused persons and that intelligence led to their arrest.

Attorney General’s assurances

Meanwhile, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame has assured that the Chinese ‘Galamsey Queen’ Aisha Huang will face prosecution for new and past offences.

A tweet from the AG’s office said it will re-initiate prosecution against Miss Huang regarding her current alleged offences and those of 2017 before her deportation from Ghana in 2018.

To ensure an expedited trial, the Attorney General’s office has thus requested for the case docket from the police.
