Three persons have perished in a car crash at Techiman in the Bono East Region.
The accident, which occurred on Thursday, 8 September 2022, has left two others in critical condition.
Reports indicate that it was a head-on collision between a Matiz taxi with registration number BA 1163 -19 and a Hyundai mini truck with registration number GT 2438 -19 at a location known as Nkaeso.
The Matiz taxi is said to have been travelling from Sunyani towards Techiman, while the Hyundai mini truck was also heading towards Sunyani.
Preliminary investigation has revealed the two drivers were trying to dodge potholes, resulting in a head-on collision.
The driver of the taxi survived, but three passengers he was carrying died.
The mini truck had just one passenger and the driver.
Both sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital.
The bodies have been deposited at the morgue for preservation and autopsy.
A total of 1,443 persons lost their lives in road crashes between the period of January and July 2022, the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) has revealed.
According to the MTTD, the police service received reports of 886 road crashes during that period.
The Director of Operations for MTTD, Supt. Dr. Samuel Sasu Mensah said the number of road crashes would reduce should motorists drive cautiously.
“From January to July 2022, we had 886 cases being reported to the Police and out of this, those who were killed were 1,443, and those who got injured were 9,218.”
However, we have a marginal decrease in both fatalities and injuries. So as we progress in the year, we hope that, through good practices by the drivers, road crashes being recorded in the country will be reduced”.
