Triple romp for Nadia Eke as she breaks own record; qualifies for Tokyo 2020, World Champs
National triple jump record holder Nadia Eke over the weekend earned qualification to next year’s Olympic Games to be held in Tokyo, Japan.
Her jump of 14.33 meters in the triple jump discipline at the Racers/Adidas Grand Prix held on Saturday, June 8 in Kingston, Jamaica booked her qualification to the global multi-sport event.
The jump also qualifies her for this year’s World Athletics Championships to be held in Qatar.
Though unable to continue the competition in the Jamaican capital after picking a hamstring injury on her third attempt, Nadia’s jump broke her own national record of 13.93m set in 2017.
She was in the competition with Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts, who broke the meet record of 14.31m and won the day.
USA’s Keturah Orji came second (14.55m) and Cuba’s Liadagmis Povea came third (14.50m).
The Ghanaian came fourth despite also breaking the meet record.
She is expected to undergo examination this week to ascertain the extent of her injury.
