An Accra High Court has nullified the results of the Ghana Music Rights Organisation (GHAMRO) elections organized on 15 March 2022.
Some dissatisfied members dragged the organization to court over the board’s mandate and the election process.
These members, led by Steven Boahene, filed an appeal against the polls, which the trial judge overturned on Tuesday, 19 July 2022, pending the resolution of the substantive issue.
“Thus, by implication, the Governing Board has been set aside,” a statement from GHAMRO said.
Before the latest ruling, there had been several litigations involving the management of GHAMRO, with some suits filed as far back as 2021.
After one year of case follow-ups, the court ruled in favour of the organization in February 2022, paving the way for board elections on 15 March 2022.
The latest decision leaves GHAMRO without any substantive board.
However, management has assured the public that its mandate, such as licensing music users, collecting fees, and distributing the same, has not been affected.
