Being your own manager, record label, and songwriter as an artist is difficult, but MzVee, a musician, says it gives her a sense of power.

Describing her journey as an independent artist after leaving the record label, Lynx Entertainment 7- years ago, the singer admitted it has been tough but it was worth it.

“It’s been very interesting. I won’t lie. Being with a record label and being on my own are very different things. And they both have their upsides and downsides.

“But to be an independent artist, I have a hand in every single thing I do, and that’s powerful for me. I mean, it’s still difficult because you know I’m basically executive producing everything I do.”

MzVee, born, Vera Hamenoo-Kpeda broke out on her own after reappearing from a two-year break to treat her mental health.

After the controversial exit which MzVee attributed to depression, the singer has successfully released two studio albums ‘InVEEncible’ in 2020 and ’10Thirty’ in 2022, coupled with a good number of hits songs, endorsement deals, and awards.

Many have described MzVee’s feat as breaking the ‘Lynx Jinx’ since no ex-Lynx musician has been able to win an award or remain relevant after leaving the label.

“I’m going to give myself a pat on the back because 3 years after my label, I’m still being nominated for awards. Picking some, and I’m still doing the work,” she told 3FM.

MzVee released her latest body of work to mark 10 years in the industry and her reaching 30 years of age. The album was officially released on June 23, followed by a musical concert on June 24.
