Police didn’t fire tear gas on VGMA stage – Kwesi Fori

The Police has denied claims they fired teargas an effort to disperse the crowed on the VGMA stage during the Sunday dawn melee.

According to the director of operations of the Greater Accra regional Police command, ACP Kwesi Fori, the police instead arrested the civilian who fired the teargas.

“Tear gas was not fired by the police. The young man who sprayed the pepper substance was immediately apprehended,” ACP Kwesi Fori told Morning Starr host Francis Abban Monday.

VGMA event organiser CharterHouse has promised activate the penal clauses in the contract signed by the artistes who were involved in the chaos at the 20th edition of the show.

The highly anticipated show  had an embarrassing ending after a brawl between the  camp of rivals Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy clashed on stage.

In a statement the organiser said: “CharterHouse has taken serious exception to the incident that happened and at the 20th edition of the awards and thus will ensure that the needed sanction are applied”.

They also apologised for the occurrence and hinted press briefings will be held to formally speak to the matter.

Meanwhile, dancehall artistes Stonebwoy and Shatta Wale have been arrested by the Police over the gun incident.
