The Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South constituency and former Minister of Work and  Housing, Samuel Atta Akyea, has expressed disappointment over President Akufo-Addo’s failure to re-appoint him as a minister in his second term.

He says despite the development, he is not discouraged.

“I was disappointed, but not discouraged, But in the final analysis, the wisdom of what he [the president] did will show, and I leave it to him. So far, I have not heard from him that it was so ugly and filthy, that ‘you so embarrassed my government, I didn’t want to see you again’, he has never said that,” the four-time MP said.

Mr. Atta Akyea, the Chairman of the Mines and Energy Committee in Parliament, expressed his appreciation for working with the Akufo-Addo-led government.

“And that gives me joy that I was not filthy, and I was not incompetent, and I didn’t spoil the good name of the Ofori-Attas. So, these are my pluses and joy, and since then, I am still working. Recently, he [Akufo-Addo] came to the constituency to cut sod for a major university at Bunso, and I showed up, and he gave me the opportunity to give the vote of thanks,” the Abuakwa South MP said on Asaase radio.

Atta Akyea was appointed as Minister for Works and Housing on 7 February 2017.

While working as Minister in Charge of Works and Housing, he took a keen interest in formulating a number of policies and bills geared towards getting a sustainable regulatory and institutional framework for the Works and Housing Sectors of Ghana.

Key among these is the gazetting and publishing of Ghana’s first Building Code in 2018, with the main focus of having a smooth and safe operation of the Works and Housing Sectors of Ghana.

Similarly, the Redevelopment Policy sought to redevelop old and rundown neighbourhoods while promoting the optimum use of the landscape.

Also, the Real Estate Agency, Survey Council as well as the Hydrological Services Authority Bills were drafted under his supervision.
