Pressure mounts on Police to produce runaway Rosewood queen

Pressure is mounting on the Ghana Police service to produce the Chinese woman, Helena Huang who was recently arrested for attempting to smuggle four containers of Rosewood Timber from the Northern Region To Tema.

Helena Huang was granted a police inquiry bail with support from an unknown influential person but failed to show up for trial, a development which forced the Northern Regional Police Command to file a summon notice at the High Court to compel the surety to produce the fugitive.

The whereabouts of the suspect appears to be unknown to the Police who have consistently appeared evasive after several phone calls to the Northern regional Police PRO and the Greater Accra Police PRO both yielded little results.

Investigations by The Ghana Report has however revealed that Helena Huang has indeed jumped bail and absconded through the Aflao border to neighbouring Togo, obviously on the blind side of security agencies.

Meanwhile, The Ghana Report is learning that the Savanna regional minister Salifu Adam Braimah, over the weekend ordered the closure of BrivyWell Company, a timber firm owned by the embattled Helena Huang in the capital, Damango which has been operating for many years.

The Minister has subsequently set up a nine-member committee to investigate forces fighting against government’s resolve to stop illegal logging, investigate the roles played by individuals, groups, institutions, including state institutions in aiding the situation.
