Black Stars technical team for World Cup playoff approved – Grunsah

The government has approved the Black Stars technical team for the 2022 World Cup playoff.

This was confirmed by a member of the newly constituted Black Stars management committee, Alhaji Karim Grunsah, in an interview.

The King Faisal president said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Sports Ministry have been in touch, and the appointment has been formalized.

“According to the Ghana FA president, Kurt Okraku, the ministry has approved the appointment,” Grunsah told Happy FM.

The veteran football administrator pleaded with Ghanaians to support the team ahead of the World Cup playoffs.

Earlier, the GFA revealed the appointment of Dortmund assistant coach Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars.

He was expected to be assisted by former Kotoko coach Mas Ud-Didi Dramani and Aston Villa U-23 coach George Boateng to lead the team for the World Cup playoff against Nigeria next month, subject to government approval.

Former Brighton boss Chris Hughton, tipped to become the next Black Stars coach, was also given an advisory role in the technical team.

Following the announcement of the newly constituted technical team of the Black Stars three weeks ago by the GFA, an official communication is yet to be announced whether the government supports the appointment.

Ghana will host Nigeria at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on March 25 in the first leg before travelling to Abuja for the second leg on March 29.

The newly constituted technical team will be in charge of only the two-legged encounter against Nigeria.
