FA launch investigation after Anthony Elanga struck by object during Leeds vs Man Utd
The FA have confirmed that they are investigating crowd disorder at Elland Road during Manchester United’s 4-2 win over Leeds after Anthony Elanga was hit by an object thrown from the stands.
The incident took place in the immediate aftermath of the visitors’ third goal, which was scored by Fred in the second half. The strike made it 3-2 to United and during the celebrations Elanga, as well as the goalscorer, were hit by projectiles thrown by Whites supporters.
After receiving treatment the forward was able to continue and he got the last laugh, scoring late on to make sure of the 4-2 victory.
At full-time both Ralf Rangnick and Marcelo Bielsa condemned the incident and according to Sky Sports the FA will investigate what happen. Should the guilty party be identified they will likely receive a lifetime ban. West Yorkshire Police have been contacted too.
“Any excess other than sporting should not be approved,” Bielsa said in his post-game interview. “I can’t evaluate what you spoke about because I didn’t see it.”
Rangnick added: “I don’t think that anything happened in the end. Anthony Elanga looked well and he was happy about scoring his goal.
“Obviously things like that should not happen and I think even more so this game. The atmosphere was great.”
