The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has set July 14 to July 16 to vote for its national officers for the next tenure.

The party has also set April 22 to 24 for the constituency elections and May 20 to 22 for regional elections.

General Secretary of the NPP, John Boadu, made this known at a press conference in Accra on Friday, January 28.

He said the decision comes after a National Council meeting the previous day.

Mr Boadu said it also forms part of the party’s leadership measures to ensure an effective re-organisation of the party and strengthen it to retain power in the 2024 general elections.

The national annual delegates conference is expected to take place in Accra.

He further said that nomination fees would cost GH₵ 20,000 for the National Chairman position, GH₵ 15,000 for the Vice Chairperson position, and GH₵10,000 for the General Secretary position.

All other positions apart from the special wings (Treasurer, Organiser, etc.), he said, will cost GH₵8,000.

The party’s National Elections Committee will supervise the elections.

The committee will comprise three representatives appointed by the National Executive Committee, the Chairman of the National Council of Elders, the Director of Research and Elections, two elderly women appointed by the National Executive Committee, and the Director of IT.

Meanwhile, Mr Boadu said the National Council had suspended elections in the Bawku Central, Assin North, Fomena, Jomoro, Savelugu, Techiman South, and Akwatia constituencies until further notice.

The National Council will contact these constituencies for further directions.

He thanked the party members for their patience and loyalty for adhering to the ‘no campaign’ period.

“Let me once again thank our party’s rank and file who have expressed interest to contest in the various positions, for respecting and abiding by the directives of the National Steering Committee, placing a complete ban on campaign activities at the 2021 National Annual Delegates Conference held on December 19.

“We, indeed, proved that the NPP is a disciplined party. It is our expectation that in the same spirit, we shall continue to respect and abide by the rules and conduct of our internal elections,” he added.
