Ghana international, Harrison Afful has been signed by Major League Soccer (MLS) new entrants Charlotte FC.

The announcement was made by the club through an official communique on its website on Friday.

“Charlotte FC today announced the Club has signed free agent defender Harrison Afful to a contract through 2022 with an option for 2023,” the MLS club announced today.

The former Black Stars defender has been playing in the MLS since 2015 when he signed for Columbus Crew and recorded a total of 164 appearances in the regular season and contributed six goals with 18 assists.

According to the Sporting Director of Charlotte FC, Zoran Krneta, the defender’s experience and quality are a must-have in the team.

”Harrison brings a wealth of experience into our locker room, and we’re excited to continue to add title-winning players to our inaugural roster. His production over the last six seasons in MLS is vital for us and he’s been a highly regarded defender around the league,” Sporting Director Zoran Krneta told the club’s website.

”Across his stellar career, Harrison has been part of eight championships, both here in Major League Soccer and in Africa, and everyone at the Club will be able to lean on his leadership.”

Afful, 35, was available as a free agent after leaving another Major League Soccer side Columbus Crew where he spent seven years and was part of the squad that lifted the 2020 MLS Cup title.
