I’m guarding my rise – Sefa
When singer Sefa emerged on the music scene about three years ago, one would have thought she had it all; a good voice, a banging body, and a well-established manager in rapper D-Black at her disposal, and she would hit success in no time.
However, that was not the case as she released a number of songs such as Playa, Wanti Wanti, Pepper, Away and Makoma which all didn’t fly as she expected. However, she didn’t relent and her persistence paid off with her song E Choke featuring Mr Drew released early this year.
The song has become a big hit and is one of the most played at events of all kinds. The success is definitely sweet for Sefa who told Graphic Showbiz it has taught her patience.
“For what it is, I will say the buzz couldn’t have come at a better time. This has taught me that patience is the key to everything and the music industry is no exception. We should be able to wait for it to get to our turn and while waiting, we should keep the work going.
“I am very grateful for the love, it’s been amazing and for now I am guarding my rise, I am protecting my space by working extra hard. Someone will feel she has arrived but for me, it has now started. The work still continues,” she stated.
When asked whether she had expected E Choke to become so big, Sefa, who is signed to Black Avenue Music, said she had been hopeful.
“I prayed and hoped that it would be liked by people, but the extent to which it went, I was not expecting that. I was convinced it was a good song because the team had put in a lot of work to make it happen, learning dance and all but the love and how it was welcomed by the populace was overwhelming and it still is.
“I’m filled with thanksgiving to God, to the team and my family. I always say I do not have fans, I have a family and I love them right back in the same volume they love me. I couldn’t have made it this far if not for their support,” she told Graphic Showbiz.
Sefa was on UTV’s United Showbiz last Saturday and her energy and performance were on another level for which she received some good comments from viewers.
And talking about her TV appearance, she said, “I loved the show that night; sometimes when you get to a place, you may end up feeding off the energy of the people around you and we all know the energy Nana Ama McBrown carries so it brought that part out.
“However, I am a fun-loving person, I love to make people happy, I didn’t take in anything, nothing, it was just all me,” she said.
Sefa currently has a new song Fever out which features Sarkodie and DJ Tira and she says the feedback has been great so far.
“The song is doing well and I love the reviews so far. Once again, to my family out there thank you. I have a lot I’m working on for you all before the year ends”.
