Nine Burkinabes have been apprehended at Abura, a suburb of Cape Coast, in connection with the kidnapping of one Salmane Tchaboutchou.
The arrest follows a complaint from the chief of the Zombrama Community in the Central Region and resident of Abura, Osman Dawda.
He told the police he suspected that Salmane had been kidnapped by some unknown men.
Law enforcers in the region tracked and located the area where the victim was being held and arrested the suspects.
A search conducted in their room led to the recovery of 16 mobile phones, one HP Laptop, and seven exercise books.
The Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Kwadwo Antwi Tabi, said the modus operandi of the suspects was luring their victims with securing them with lucrative jobs in the mining sector.
“As part of the employment requirement, victims are to carry some amount of money on them to Ghana. On their arrival, the suspects take the said money from them and kidnap them. They are then made to call relatives to pay a ransom,” he indicated.
DCOP Tabi said the suspects are being investigated on charges of human trafficking, abetment of kidnapping, kidnapping, unlawful entry into the country, and resident in Ghana without valid documents.
He warned foreigners against attempting to enter the country illegally, as they would be dealt with when caught.
The suspects will be put before the court after police investigations.
