A Police officer captured in a video allegedly sexually harassing a female victim in a vehicle has been granted bail by the Sunyani District Court.
The accused, General Lance Corporal Victor Antwi Yeboah of the Bono Regional Police Command, was granted bail to the tune of GHC 10,000 with one surety.
He was slapped with two charges — assault contrary to Section 84 of the Criminal Offences Act 29 and indecent assault contrary to Section 103 of the Criminal Offences Act 29.
The accused has since pleaded not guilty to the said charges and is to reappear on 15 December 2021.
The trial judge Eric Daning drew the parties attention to an out-of-court settlement as the case is a misdemeanour and is permitted under Section 73/74 of the Court Act 459 1993.
General Lance Corporal was seen in a viral video touching the exposed thighs of a woman in a vehicle sometime in November.
In the said video, the words “yes, you’re naked” could be heard repeatedly as the officer continued to seductively touch the victim despite her pleas for the former to stop.
When news of the assault went viral, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr George Akuffo Dampare reached out to the victim.
He assured her of thorough police investigations and any other necessary police support, including psychological care and trauma therapy.
