278 lawyers called to the Ghana Bar
Some 278 new lawyers have today, October 1, 2021, been called to the Ghana Bar.
This was done at a ceremony organized by the General Legal Council (GLC) and held at the International Conference Centre in Accra.
This year’s (2021) event is the 58th Anniversary in the history of enrolment on the Roll of Lawyers.
The GLC convenes a formal meeting annually to enroll and call to the Ghana Bar, candidates who have successfully passed their professional law examination organized by the Ghana School of Law after their results have been certified.
The new lawyers by the ceremony, have been certified by the GLC to begin their legal profession in the country.
The annual event was last year held on December 17, at the same venue due to the ravaging effects of the COVID-19 and its associated restrictions.
Gyan Emmanuel Yeboah won the coveted John Mensah Sarbah Memorial prizes. Antoinette Ayisah-Eyeson was the best student in Civil Procedure; Kobby Afai Yeboah, the best student in Criminal Procedure and Law Practice Management and Legal; Baah Acheampong Moses was the best student in Law of Evidence; Wedadebam Awiah Matilda, the best student in interpretation of deeds and statutes, Nana Fyn Micheal, the best student in Alternative Dispute Resolution(ADR), and Akua Badu Afriyie adjudged the best student in Advocacy and Legal ethics.
Other award recipients were Jeiten Osei-Bonsu, the best student in Conveyance and Practice Drafting, Siaw Gyamfi-Henry, the best student in Commercial and Company practice; and Ohenewaa Kumah Grace took home the best student awards in Family and Practice.
