Milovan Rajevac finally named coach of the Black Stars

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially unveiled Serbian trainer Milovan Rajevac as the new head coach of the nation’s senior men soccer team, the Black Stars, at a press briefing held on Friday.

The 67-year old makes a return to Ghana after 11 years to take up the coaching job with the Black Stars which was left vacant following the dismissal of Coach C. K Akonnor, who was sacked for poor performance

Rajevac’s first time was in 2008 when he succeeded French manager Claude Le Roy, a successful stint as he guided the team to a quarter-final finish in the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

In his first stint, he led the team in 28 games, winning 12, losing 11 and drawing 5 during his two-year stay with the team.

The former Thailand coach has signed a one-year performance-based contract with the Ghana FA with a task to qualify the team to next year’s FIFA World Cup to be staged in Qatar and also win the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations.

He will take home a signing fee of $100,000 and a $30,000 monthly salary for a year with an option for a further year if he qualifies the Black Stars to the World Cup.

Dortmund’s assistant coach Otto Addo and coach Maxwell Konadu have been appointed as his assistants with Otto Addo expected to work on a part-time basis as he is allowed to keep his current job with the German side.

Richard Kingson has also been reappointed as the new goalkeepers’ trainer.

His first task will be to defeat Zimbabwe in the double-header in the World Cup qualifiers and subsequently qualify the team to the World Cup in 2022.
