V/R: Three arrested over police recruitment scam
Three persons have been arrested in the Volta Region over their alleged involvement in police recruitment scam, an official statement said.
The police spokesperson in the Volta Region, DSP Effia Tenge, said the arrest was made on Tuesday 14 September 2021.
The arrest “follows a fraudulent Facebook publication purported to have been created by the Volta Regional Police commander, DCOP Mr Edward Oduro Kwarteng, advertising to assist potential applicants to be enlisted in to the Ghana Police Service,” the statement said.
It further noted that preliminary investigation into the development revealed that “many victims have paid various sums of money to the fraudsters with the hope of being favoured in the ongoing recruitment exercise.”
The three suspects, Amenya Bernard,18, Adikah Godsway, 23, and Wemegah Godson, 21, are currently in police custody.
Be vigilant
The police have cautioned the public to be vigilant over the numerous recruitment scams because the police in the region is not “responsible for recruiting persons into the service.”
DSP Tenge further noted that, in their fight against recruitment scam in the region “the police have arrested a total of five suspects in the past weeks,” adding that, those who have fallen victims of such crime must not hesitate to report to the police.
