Desist from excessive jubilation after exams – UEW SRC mourns death of student
The Students Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Education (UEW), Winneba, has cautioned students to cease extreme celebrations after completing their examinations following the death of a final years student.
“The Council wishes to draw the attention of the final year students who are in the mood of celebrating the completion of their courses/programmes to do that with moderation and should not be carried away by their rejoice,” the SRC warned.
The deceased, Sani Abdul Majeed, is said to have engaged in a series of acrobatic backflips to mark the completion of his undergraduate programme.
Unfortunately, he lost his balance and snapped his neck, causing a fracture as well as breaking his spine.
Majeed was rushed to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra on Thursday, September 9, and got admitted for treatment.
However, he died two days later.
Majeed was a student of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports.
The leadership said it was “stunned by the news of the sudden departure of one of its colleagues by name Sani Abdul Majeed, a level 400 (final year) student of the Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports (HYPERS)”.
“The Council extends its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to the deceased’s family on the untimely loss of their son; though the Council has shown leadership at the time the deceased needed its help but as the saying goes “Man proposes, God disposes”.
“The Council indeed believes that every soul shall taste death; though death, in general, is painful, it is the exit of a promising young person that pains the most! We pray that he, the deceased rest in peace in the bosom of Almighty God.
“The entire student fraternity will be keeping the deceased in their thoughts and holding him in their heart. Rest In Peace Sani Abdul Majeed!”
