Police on manhunt for suspect who stabbed Oppong Memorial SHS student

Police in Bekwai have commenced investigations into the death of a final year student of the Oppong Memorial Senior High School (SHS) in the Ashanti Region.

The deceased, 21-year-old Richard Appiah, who left the school premises to town, was said to have been attacked and stabbed by some unknown assailants on the night of September 4.

He died at the Bekwai Government Hospital where he was rushed for medical attention.

The suspect, believed to be a JHS student, is currently on the run.

The family is demanding immediate arrest of persons involved in the crime as residents of Adwumam in the Bosomtwe District mourn with the bereaved.

A shattered mother Florence Adomah, urged “The police to identify and arrest the culprits who killed my son. I want to see them being prosecuted for this crime”.

The Municipal Chief Executive for Bekwai, Kwaku Kyei Baffour, who described the incident as disturbing, said he trusts the police to bring the perpetrators to book.

“I learned that the guy is a final year student who went to town around that time and this happened. It is unfortunate. If you know the terrain of the school, it is a very vast land. We need to encourage the students to stay on campus and be serious about their books,” he added.
