Hit And Run: Police Grab Driver Who Hid Woman’s Body In The Bush

A driver has been arrested by the police after he knocked down a woman but allegedly hid her body in a nearby bush, an action that is said to have consequently led to her death.

Emeka Adams, 42, was arrested by officers some nine days after the incident involving the 27-year-old woman who is said to have been a teacher at the De-Youngsters School in the Adentan Municipality.

According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Effia Tenge who is the Public Relations Officer of the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, Adams, was drove a Hyundai Sonata Saloon vehicle with registration number GB 2126-2 in the evening of June 7 this year.

At the Adentan-Dodowa Traffic Intersection, Adams is said to knocked down his victim at around 7pm. In the full glare of bystanders, he went to pick the woman up under the pretext of getting her medical attention.

But police investigations found out that Adams dumped the vulnerable victim in a bush around Abokobi and left. The deceased is believed to have died from this neglect and her body was found and reported to the police.

Adams was arrested a week after the body had been found and deposited at the Police Hospital morgue.

Road accidents in Ghana

Road traffic fatalities seem to be on the growth, with 1,250 lives lost for the first five months of 2021.

This represents a 26.32% increase over the same period in 2020, with the trend suggesting a record high annual figure by the end of 2021. Persons who survived the crashes but sustained various injuries for the period were 1, 309, a rise of 26.72%, according to official statistics.

This means eight lives perish on the country’s roads daily.

After pushing the annual road fatalities to the highest in the last 30 years in 2020, motorcycle accidents contributed to 538 road fatalities over the period.
