Ghana ranked among top 50 teams in latest Fifa Rankings

Ghana have moved back into the top 50 football nations in the world, after placing 49th in the latest edition of the Fifa World Rankings released on Wednesday, 7 April 2021.

Previously occupying the 52nd position, the April release saw Black Stars jump up by three places following an outstanding performance in 2021 AFCON qualifiers last month.

The Black Stars were unbeaten in last month’s doubleheader. a 1-1 draw with South Africa in Johannesburg was followed by a 3-1 home win over Sao Tome and Principe was enough to book a ticket to the upcoming tournament.

There were quite a lot of movement in April’s global standings with no fewer than 185 games -predominantly qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and the Africa Cup of Nations 2021.

The order of the top six has not changed with Belgium still dominating ahead of France, Brazil, England, Portugal, and Spain. Italy have moved up to take over the seventh position, sitting just ahead of Argentina, Uruguay, and Denmark in that order.

On the Africa continent, Ghana moved up one place to seventh place behind leaders Senegal, Tunisia, Nigeria, Algeria, Morocco, and Egypt.

Ghana’s next competitive game is in June when they take on Ethiopia and South Africa in the 2022 World Cup qualifiers.

The next edition of the rankings will be announced on 27th May.
