Election campaigns have not increased covid-19 cases – Akufo-Addo
President Nana Akufo-Addo has revealed that Ghana’s electioneering peak has not resulted in increased cases of coronavirus despite earlier fears.
In his latest update on the fight against coronavirus, the president said on national television Sunday that daily infections have remained steady, recording between 100 and 130 cases.
The data from the Ghana Health Service shows that as of Friday, December 18, 2020, active cases had reduced from 1,139 to 946, he said.
He was happy to announce that dedicated treatment centers are now virtually empty and hospitalization rate has seen a lull.
For a virus that spreads through human contact, health experts feared the 2020 election campaigns could become a super spreading occasion and trigger a second wave.
But while photos from the campaign trail showed a large and common disregard for the safety protocols, the president has noted the fears did not become a reality in Ghana.
