Police officer accidentally kills himself with his AK-47 rifle

A police officer who was returning from night duties at a bank at Takoradi met his untimely death when his AK-47 rifle accidentally went off, hitting him in the abdomen. 

The 27-year-old Constable, Senanu Davordzie of the Rapid Development Force, was reported to have been riding his motorcycle when the incident occurred at about 4:56am.

He was about to handover the service rifle when he accidentally fell off his bike at the entrance of the charge office and the weapon accidentally discharged two rounds of ammunitions.

Commenting on the matter, the Western Region Police PRO, Olivia Ewuraabena Adiku said Davordzie “was returning from night duty on his Aprilla motorbike with registration number M-20-GR 670 to hand over the AK-47 rifle with 20-rounds of ammunition to the station when the incident occurred.”

“At the entrance of the RDF charge office, Senanu fell off the motorbike and the rifle he was carrying went off accidentally, discharging two ammunition, which hit him in the abdomen,” she said in a Joynews interview monitored by theghanareport.com.

Davordzie was pronounced dead on arrival at the Takoradi hospital.

His body has since been deposited at the same hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Meanwhile, the service rifle has been retrieved for further investigations.
